Dandruff: what is it?
As part of a completely natural process, the scalp produces dead cells – as does the rest of the skin all over the body. This natural process of shedding dead cells is part cell renewal.
A healthy scalp produces new cells and discards old ones and will show no signs visible to the human eye.
An unhealthy scalp produces what is called dandruff, which is an abnormal manifestation of skin cells on the scalp and their expulsion via "flaking". This cell renewal activity (commonly called dandruff) leads to drying and irritation of the scalp.
